May, 2021 Meeting Minutes

The meeting of the Grand Lake Recreation Club was held May 9th at Bayview. Approximately 17 present. President, Brad Fisher brought the meeting to order and Vice President, Keith Seitz read the April minutes. We welcomed Tom Scheib back as Treasurer and he gave the Treasurer’s report. Current balance of $6,609.08 (note this still includes sonar unit payment).

Park Manager, Dave Faler came to give park updates and take questions.

  • Lake level on Saturday, 5/8/21 was 3.53″, after all the rain, lake level was 7.58″ on the 9th.
  • Rain from Jan-April = 7.7″ total, May 1-9th = 2.87″
  • Campgrounds are open and full for Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day
  • Fall Festival is 9/10 – 9/12/21
  • Halloween is 10/1 – 103/21
  • There have been many renovations to the campground
  • Dredging is now complete in Park
  • After Hodag moves from the Campground, it will head to the South side of the lake
  • Brutus is at Park Grand
  • Windy Point restrooms are now open
  • Toxic (micro-system) levels are at an all time low at West Beach. If the levels stay down, after 2 weeks, we can remove warning signs
  • Dave thanked us for our part in Lake Cleanup: six members from GLRC went out to clean up the new beach, boater’s beach, hauled in many logs, hauled in the front and real axle of a vehicle and cleaned other places around the lake. We will be going back out at the end of May, grab a rake and come along!

Summary of GLRC meeting updates:

  • Continue to work with LIA on the LED channel signs. These were originally LIA’s signs, they are financially backing most of it. There will be a total of 13, we may need to fund some also.
  • Depth finder was purchased and will be installed on the Log Dog soon.
  • Brad Fisher used the Log Dog to assist in the rescue at Harmon’s Landing last month. The Log Dog did a great job getting out in the wavy water and was the first on the scene. Everyone was ok and the Fire Department was very grateful for our (Brad’s) help.
  • Sonar unit was put on for the dredge crew, this will help them to get more stumps out of the water. The State will take a few GLRC members out to train us on using the sonar/dredge.
  • Outdoorsman installed the sonar unit for us. They graciously donated half the labor (took 6 hours to put on). Thank you again, Outdoorsman’s!!
  • Poker Run is June 12th, fliers have been printed and put up around town, contact Brad if you need one.
    • door prizes: gift certificates from local businesses & donations, let us know if you have ideas on more door prizes. There will be a 50/50 and best 3 hands.
    •  We still need volunteers to help with parking, dealing cards and registration in the morning. Please let us know if you can help!! Just drop a quick text, or email the Rec Club.
    • Brad: 419-733-2731
    • Keith: 419-733-7328
  • The Nurrenbrock’s will be running our BPR ad in the June 1-2nd Val-Pak mailing. It is at minimal charge to us, no mailing fee, just the printing. Thanks Nurrenbrocks!
