The meeting of the Grand Lake Recreation Club was held August 13th at Behm’s. Approximately  39 members present. President, Brad Fisher, brought the meeting to order and read the July minutes. Treasurer, Kim Swick, read the Treasurer’s report: current balance $16,274. 

  • Long time GLRC member, Steve Welch, suffered a massive heart attack a few weeks ago and sadly passed away August 14th. Steve was a very active member of the Rec Club and will be greatly missed. Celebration of Life date to be announced soon. Please keep his wife Renee, and their family, lake family, and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
  • In July the Evening Leader ran articles on the GLRC and Mobley Foundation donations of $3K to each (St. Marys Township, Montezuma and Celina) Fire Department for safety equipment. The Evening Leader also ran an article on the projects/mission of the Grand Lake Recreation Club.
  • ODNR report: lake -1 inch, gate open 3 inches. 2.76 inches of rain for July, 22.74 inches so far for the year. Full camp the past 13 weeks and for the next 5 weeks as well.
    • there are issues with the splash pad and they are currently working to resolve those.
    • September 8-10th is the Fall Fest at the Park, it is open to the public.
    • pollinator plots to be cleaned up on West Bank soon 
  • Log Dog has been getting a lot of use. We were made aware of some trimming and trees that need removed on Big and Little Chickasaw channels. GLRC will get to those as soon as we can. New ski bar being installed this week.
  • The new floating ADA dock, in conjunction with the LIA was installed August 4th. Shinn Brothers Inc donated the installation and made a monetary donation. 
  • Lights: we continue to trim around the lights. New light has been ordered for the Oil Derrick and will be installed this week. GLRC will continue to monitor lights and trim around them.
    • Brad is working with Angie King on financial support to rebuild Oil Derrick again.
  • The LIA is looking to get a summer/temporary dock put up on Safety Island for next year. Shinn Brothers are working with LIA and Rec Club on this also.
  • Brad is working with Jeff Vossler (LIA) on updating the LIA lake maps. Please let us know if you see anything missing or needs removed.
  • Trevor Mobley Foundation’s annual event this year is September 9th:  9 hole scramble in the AM. Then 1-5/6ish will be at Celina Moose. Gun raffle, whiskey wheel, wine toss, live auction, silent auction and more. Money raised will go to fire departments for rescue.
  • September 16th is the Fall Roundup at Southshore Sportsman Club. It starts at 4PM and is open to the public. Let Della St. Johns know if you are able to volunteer, or just come out and have fun.
  • As always, we look forward to your ideas/project for the GLRC. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer to help on projects.
Next meeting is 2PM, September 10th at Celina Eagle’s (Quarterly Meeting)
  • Club drawing was for $160. Larry Salyer’s number was pulled: not paid, not present. Next Club drawing is for $180. 
   2023 Dues are now due ($20.00 per family for the year)
