The meeting of the Grand Lake Recreation Club was held October 8th at It’s It. Approximately 40 members present. President, Brad Fisher, brought the meeting to order and Vice President, Keith Seitz read the September minutes. Treasurer, Kim Swick, read the Treasurer’s report: current balance $10,675.54.
- Thank you to the 6 people who helped with ditch cleanup before the meeting! We are looking to move the ditch cleanups from 12PM to 1PM, and move locations of meetings closer to cleanup locations. Ditch Cleanup is in May and Oct
- ODNR report: lake level -3.14″, gate open 3″. Rainfall for September 0.51″, Rainfall for the 2023, 26.5″
- Waterfowl season: youth season went well, regular season begins October 21st
- It was a very successful camping season, a special thanks to the camp host for making it a great season
- Halloween campout went great with a full camp
- Thanks to everyone that assisted with the Handicapped Kid’s Fishing Derby, it was a huge success
- If you have an Adopt a Buoy, please remove them
- A unanimous donor has donated 60 trees and also paid for 6 park officials to go through ODNR Division of Forestry Tree planting clinic, that will be performed at the Park
- Upcoming Park projects:
- Walk with Nature October, 15th
- Several trees to be removed throughout the Park
- This winter, working on the shoreline as well as removing trees and shrubs
- As you remove your boats, be sure to winterize properly and check safety equipment
- 60 tandem loads of dirt were added East of the Handicap fishing pond and were graded and seeded
- Dredge: Brutus pumping at Montezuma Bay and Hoedag pumping at Prairie Creek. State is looking for a DMRA (dredge material relocation area). Around 10 acres on the N/W corner of the lake. If you, or someone you know would be able to help in this area, please let us know. You do get paid for renting your farmland.
- Allison Brady from Heritage Trails came to speak to the Club about the importance of Auglaize County Parks. Please consider voting for the levy for Park development and operation on November 7th. Please see flier on our website for details: grandlakerecclub.com
- Safety Island: Speckman family donating some aluminum docks and $2500 in aid from LIA
- New holders put up for Little Chick sign
- Lake maps are still being worked on
- Oil Derrick coming down this fall, next year we will work on getting more rock out.
- Christmas Meeting: December 10th:
- Members have asked about getting more shirts on order (bright ones) for the Christmas meeting. Also, working on magnets for Christmas meeting. Next year we are going to try out having the meetings for Superbowl and Mother’s Day on the 3rd Sunday of the month
- Swicks will be cooking up the food/meat
- Della St. Johns and Jane Schmiesing for being in charge of gifts this year
- The annual Trevor Mobley fundraiser went great, they raised ~$15K to be used for projects and Fire Department donations
- As always, we look forward to your ideas/project for the GLRC. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer to help on projects.

- Club drawing was for $200. Vicki Craft’s number was pulled: not paid, not present. Next Club drawing is for $220.
