The meeting of the Grand Lake Recreation Club was held Sunday, October 13th, at South Shore Sportsman’s Club.  President, Brad Fisher, brought the meeting to order.  Treasurer, Tom Scheib, gave the Treasurer’s Report and noted that we had an excellent report, the best we have had in a long time.  President, Brad Fisher, read the minutes from the meeting held September 8th.  Minutes were approved as read.  There were approximately 35 people present.

The next meeting will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. on November 10th at In Cahoots (the old Buck’s Inn).

  • We had 9 people help with trash pickup and it only took 1/2 hour. This is the most we have had in a while. Thank you to all who came out.
  • Results of the Gun Raffle:
    • It was a great success! 581 total tickets were sold. Our goal was to sell 500 tickets, so in an effort to keep the chances of winning along the same lines, we added two additional prizes.  Thank you to all who participated.
      • Remington 1911: Cain Warthman
      • Savage Axis: Bryan Miller (not the park guy)

    • The Grand Lake Rec Club’s golf outing had a smaller turnout than usual this year, due to conflicting community events – but a good time was still had by those that came out.
    • Our newest and youngest club member was introduced. Luke and Amy Ruane welcomed daughter Elise Marie into the world on September 27th.
    • Jason Plattner, Jamie Bubp and Tom Schieb recently took care of some logs on the lake and will try to hit up more beaches.

    • If anyone is interested, there are hunting maps of the lake available at the Park Office.
    • Events for the rest of the year and the upcoming year were discussed. It was agreed that having our meeting at the local establishments around the lake has worked well this year, and we will continue to do this at meetings going forward.  There was discussion on including private clubs like Eagles and Moose, and also on which bars close in the winter.  This is being looked into and will be discussed at the next meeting.
    • Brian Miller spoke at the meeting, he gave many updates, here are some of the highlights:
      • the lake level was currently 8.25 inches low
      • camping was good this year, with the 50% off camping, shelter houses, and docks. They are not sure if they will discounts these next year, it is still being decided.

      • They were not able to do stump removal this year, due to being short on manpower.
      • Brian thanked the Club the safety lights we donated earlier this year, they were much appreciated. He really enjoys working together with us.

      • there was talk of putting low water signs (at Harmon’s for example).
    • We would like to look into getting new T-shirts made up for the Club. If you have any designs or ideas for a great new shirt, let us know. Also, let us know if you know someone that designs and produces T-shirts that may be interested in producing for us.
    • With the weather getting colder, and snowmobile riding just around the corner, Brad reminded us to be respectful of property owners and to lookout for culverts, trees and ice.
    • As always, we continue to look for ideas for fundraisers and events for The Grand Lake Rec Club. Please let an officer know your idea, or respond to this email.
    • Denny Liette is looking into a football tailgate party, with a tentative date of Saturday November 2nd at Shockers. We will have 50/50, $5.00 all you can eat and more.  Once the details are finalized, Brad will get a flier out.
