April 8, 2018 Minutes

The  meeting of the Grand Lake Recreation Club was held at Duckfoots.  President, Brad Fisher, brought the meeting to order and read March Minutes.  Treasurer, Tom Scheib, read the Treasurer’s report; current balance of $5,272.42.  Approximately 26 members present.

The next meeting will be Sunday, May 13th, 2:00 at Behm’s (We realize this is Mother’s Day, but if you could stop for a bit, get an update on the Club and support our local business, that would be great!)

  • Current paid member count: 89 families and 13 businesses.
  • Dave Faler attended and gave the ODNR report. After the 2+ inches of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, the lake is 14.3” above the notch. He ensured us that lake drawdown is complete for the year. They will just let the spillway do its job and the lake level will return to normal. Dave reminded us that on a summer day, when the wind, heat and humidity are just right, the lake can lose an inch a day. They are rebuilding the West Beach at Villa Nova.  This includes extending, aerating, and new sand. He will update us as the project progresses. They are also putting a new pool in the campground.
  • Lake Cleanup is April 21st this year. We meet between 7-7:30AM at Rustic for breakfast and planning, then we split out and get on the water around 8AM. Email us if you know of logs in the water that need removed and if you can help, so we can plan for our day. Dave thanked us for all our hard work we do for the Lake Cleanup.  He noted that the biggest help they get on this day is from the Grand Lake Rec Club and his staff.
  • Brad, Jason and JR have the boat in the water and brought it to the meeting. We took a nice group picture with the members there and it is on our website. Since last summer, the group (especially Rich and Angie Leis) have volunteered their time to fix up the following on the boat: LED lights and radio installed, cleaned up spark plugs, kill switch, etc. The guys said it ran great. It is now available for emergencies and to our local fire departments. As always, this is your boat as well, any time you need it just contact us.
  • The recognition plaques for the Oil Derrick Replica and its donors is underway. Look for these signs at nearby establishments soon.
  • Last month at the quarterly meeting, we voted and approved a $3,000 donation budget. We are purchasing 2 sonar units for the ODNR boat, 2 cold water rescue suits and throw bags. We are buying local at Freedom Outdoors and have received a discount. These units will be available for other lakes to use in emergency situations, but will be housed at Grand Lake.
    • High Estimate:
      • 2 sonar units installed and equipment: $3600
      • 2 cold water rescue suits $1400
      • Throw bags: $330
    • LIA said they would donate up to $2500 for this effort and the check is in the mail. This donation will end up costing the Club $2,830
  • Dave Meyer is representing GLRC at the Snow Bird welcome back meeting at Behms for the residents on 4/21/18. We will be bringing the boat over to display and since this is also Lake Cleanup day, it should be full of logs!  Thank you, Dave for getting out and promoting our Club.
  • June 9th is the GLRC Bicycle Poker Run, still looking for volunteers to deal cards. Let us know if you can help.
  • Ryan Beatty is working with Paint the Town (this is a newspaper full of fun events, available at almost all restaurants on the lake) to run a ½ page ad of our Bicycle Poker Run flier. It is under $200 to run this size ad for a month.
  • Member, Pam Miller, who works at Reynolds & Reynolds, brought in a stack of filers made and donated by Reynolds to hang around town. Please let us know if you need one, or I can email you a copy you can print.
  • Club drawing was for $40.00, Seth and Kristen Jacobs’ number was pulled; not paid, not present. Next drawing will be for $50.00.
  • As always, please email me with any ideas, questions or comments.

2018 Dues are now due ($20.00 per family for the year)

(Thank You if you have paid your dues)

Respectfully submitted by Amy Ruane, Secretary
