The meeting of the Grand Lake Recreation Club was held at Rustic Haven.  President, Brad Fisher brought the meeting to order.  Treasurer, Tom Scheib read the Treasurer’s Report.  Approximately 28 members present.

The next meeting will be Sunday, May 10th, 2:00 at Big Bamboo’s Dockside Grill (the old Carter Villa).

  • Brian Miller came to speak at the meeting and answer questions. Please see Brian’s report below.
  • As previously voted upon, we have purchased our GLRC boat, to use to clean up the lake. It is a 24 foot pontoon from Kozy Marina for $1,500.00.  It was at the meeting and will work great for lake cleanup and other tasks.  This past weekend many members got together to do some work on it and help make it more functional for our Club’s purposes of bringing in logs, etc.
  • Next meeting we will discuss fuel for the boat, along with rules and regulations for boat usage.
  • JR Oyer volunteered to create and donate a Grand Lake Recreation Club flag for the boat, thanks JR!
  • The GLRC Bicycle Poker Run is May 30th! Registration 10:30 – noon at Bayview, please be back at Bayview by 4:00. There is a $5.00 donation/person to ride. We had 310 registered last year and are hoping for 350-400 this year! This is one of our biggest events and people come from all over to participate. We could use volunteers to help with registration and dealing cards at the end.  Remember this is a wonderful family event and a great fundraiser for the club.
  • John Lee is making fliers again for us this year to promote the Bicycle Poker Run at cost of to nothing (around $20.00) thank you John!
  • New this year to the Bicycle Poker Run, we are going to add a drawing for two bikes! We will raffle off a child and an adult bike.  New members Kevin and Crista Fannin volunteered to find the bikes for us.  They are going to go to some local shops to see if someone would be willing to donate bikes and if not, find the best deals on the prizes.  More details at the next meeting.
  • Our Oil Derrick project will be in the paper again soon. We also discussed  a plaque for the Oil Derrick to recognize our generous contributors, the Grand Lake Recreation Club and the LIA.
  • The St. Marys Township Fire Department is in need of ice water rescue equipment that costs $422.55. Luke Ruane III made a motion for the Rec Club to donate, Dave Meyer seconded the motion, and it was passed unanimously.
  • The Club drawing was for $40.00. Chuck Findlay was drawn; not paid, not registered.  Next drawing will be for $50.00!
  • Please remember to pay your dues and recruit new members. It is such a small price to pay and goes to a great cause we all know and love!

Dredge

  • Brutus- Moved to Windy Point last week. Will Fuse Pipe and connect. Pumping into the Windy Point Donut
  • Hoe Dag- Was moved to Little Chickasaw Creek
  • PAL Dredge- Flushed the hydraulic system and found the system is contaminated and needs a new hydraulic pump. The pump is being worked on and is expected to be repaired in a week or so. This dredge will start of at Blue Heron Cove move and do 2 small channels at Rustic and then move and start dredging the channels of Southmoore Shores. This Material will be going into the Liett DMRA initially and then will be pumped into the new Gast DMRA.
  • Gast DMRA- Being constructed. We went from 21 inches of frost to soup. The site is going up very nicely when the weather is good. We can not construct our sites with wet Material – the impoundment walls will fail
  • Windy Point Wetland DMRA- Being constructed now. Using concrete from the old Acid plant and the pads from the trailer park on Lake Shore Drive.
  • McVoys DMRA- is 75% reclaimated. We will finish the site work once it dries out.
  • We have 4 positions posted for the WC Dredge crew. The postings will come down at the end of today. We will then prescreen and set interviews and get these people hired as soon as possible.
  • We will be running additional dredging hours this year, once all the dredges are placed and running. (additional 10 hours per dredge, a week) = 840 additional dredging hours. The key to the success of this is getting the new operators hired and trained.
  • I am looking forward to this dredge season and redeeming our self’s with a record year.

2015 Dues are now due ($20.00 a family for the year)

(Thank You if you have paid your dues)

Respectfully submitted by Amy Ruane, Secretary
